The gypsies couldn’t be able to participate to production process as a reason of serious social exclusions which they have been exposed to. Consequently this living style that based on the long years, has turned into the general living way that has been get used by both gypsies and the other class of the society. The gypsies, who have tried to get their livelihood with several occupation ,that seems unnecessary by the society, like being female dancer and male dancer, tinning something, fortunetelling; have considered as third class people during the time. They’ve need to conceal their real identity because of the prejudices about perceiving as being a gypsy, even they have a career and statue. While they were living lots of problem caused by the socio-economic restrictions, they’ve especially tried to keep on their traiditonal living style. According to their living philosophy, They always choose seizing the day, instead of the submitting rigid social insistences. Because, the values, which connects them to life, have always been spiruality before the materialism. Many economical existence way, heritages from family to children, like tinning, getting bears to dance, selling trousseau in the bundle, have vanished from their life day by day. Thus together with the advances in market relations, cracks in introverted family configurations and immigrations to the city centres, there have been begun to being lived new process in the gypsies life, which still supported by their tradition but also trying to become a united whole with the market then. Only considering to living moment, staying away from the personal or social projects concerning to the future, have been resulted from the gypsies’ well-known and still valid mentality based on the “it has come like this and goes on like this” idea. In fact the approach of the other people directed to them, couldn’t be enough for changing their mind. Perhaps nowadays the families don’t make their naughty children scare as saying “Just be quiet! or I give you to the gypsies”; but it’s still possible to find many words like fear, passion, vagabondage in Gypsy myths. They are still burglars in many people’s mind, and idea as if only they are ominous... The gypsies will be always exposed to these rumours as they didn’t tend to social pluralism inside themselves. There had been some civilian associations and individuals showed themselves to stopped these negative prejudices about the gypsies, but the gypsies have been contented with just watching this process.
GYPSY DANCE
Gypsy dance’s rhythm is 9/8 in Turkey ( 1.2, 1.2, 1.2, 1.2.3 ) (waterbottle)bagpipe-slow, beet-fast and bagpipe is a dance just completely peculiar to Gypsies. Karþýlama, which plays with the same rhythm, shows differences with its foot step and general attitude. Gypsy dance’s characteristic comes from its improvisation configuration. The dance can’t improve as it is being played individual and independent from any rules. The dancers play with quoting some figures from belly-dance and oriental, and adding their special comments and soul to dance. In their dances; figures, with the intention of making someone jealous, showing off, annoying and arousing interest, are being presented with derisive but cunning air.
